Carrine Atoel
Scholar of Sharlayan
'To seek, to know, to discover and to grow;
what better way to spend the fleeting moments of our lives;
than to entrust knowledge unto tomorrow?'Valedictorian. Aetherologist. Grant-funding recipient.After graduating the Studium, all eyes were upon the shining new leader of the class. To whom much is given, much is expected and there was a great deal of anticipation and speculation as to what Carrine Atoel would do next. That she chose to strive for an Archon's brand shocked no-one her methodology however is emblematic of Sharlayan's changing culture.Discontented to remain on the Isle and immerse herself as a reader deep within Noumenon, Carrine proposed an ambitious exploration of Eitheryis in this new and unprecedented era of peace and revelation with an eye to first-hand study of changing religious, magical and alchemical practices through the decidedly Sharlayan lens of applied aetherology.Several fiery rounds of grant applications, rejections and re-applications later the young scholar set sail for Ul'dah by way of Vylbrand; Academic stipend in hand and no shortage of publication deadlines looming if she wanted the funding to keep coming, there was a world out there that Sharlayan had turned its back on for generations and she meant to see it all.
Ul'dah
The first leg in Carrine's grant-funded world-tour very important social, cultural and scientific primary research project, the bright-eyed Sharlayan is eager to sample all the delights, wonders and curiosities of the legendary city, its mysterious land and strange customs. To this end she is presently keeping rooms at the Hourglass while working and studying at the Alchemists Guild
Sharlayan
A Valedictorian of the Studium, Carrine Atoel is a new name to watch rather than an old name to be lived up to.A prodigious write of grant-applications, the reciept of precious funding places the young scholar under considerable pressure to make regular publications of original research to satisfy the committees and earn further disembursements, so she is always on the look out for new and exciting phenomena to study.Those who keep an eye on the next generation of Archons are certainly aware of Carrine's work (and grant-funded world touring) and opinions vary whether this is an essential part of a future Archon's academic development or a squandering of precious resources and potential is a matter of differing opinions.
Employment
While Sharlayan grant-funding has provided for travel and modest lodgings, the academic stipend doesn't go much farther than that; especially in a city as gil-hungry as Ul'dah and so an enterprising scholar must strive to make her own way in the world.With esteemed skills of a Sharlayan scholar, journeyman Alchemist and accomplished Arcanist at her disposal surely there is some service you might pay for?
Alchemy
As befits any Studium graduate, Carrine has a sound grounding in the theoretical principals and practical applications of alchemy but the Sharlayan view is aethero-centric and the practices and philosophies of Ul'dahn and Hannish alchemists are full of wonder so ass a part of her research, Carrine has undertaken an apprenticeship with the guild in Ul'dah.Capable of preparing many reagents, producing a wide variety of common infusions & elixirs alongside even more bespoke concoctions she continues to actively seek further tutition.
Healing
Physik is to an arcanist as the parry is to a swordsman; essential. A trained Sharlayan scholar and accomplished Arcanist, Carrine is capable of - and considers herself ethically bound to - rendering emergency trauma care to those in need and one would be hard-pressed to find a more qualified physician for the treatment of aetheric maladies outside of Sharlayan itself.
Thaumaturgy
Carrine is fascinated by Ul'dahn Thaumaturgy; a rare discipline in Sharlayan and certainly lacking the quasi-religious flair found in Thanalan, Carrine is eager to study the art.An astute and inquisitive student with a profound understanding of the aetherological principals who would never call up what she could not put down awaits the right teacher.
Sacred Geometery
Classically trained in the Sharlayan magical arts Carrine is an accomplished arcanist and quite capable of rendering instruction in the discipline to novice practioners.Still, there is always more to learn and the right mentor could further expand her horizons.
Cuisine
The Sharlayan palette is not highly regarded for its refinement, with nutrition taking pride of place and convenience a close second, flavour and texture are late afterthoughts. While never a frequent customer at the Last Stand, one of the things that most excites Carrine about travel is the food; the aromas, the textures, the flavours, the entire dining experience and its a sure-fire way to coax her away from her books and alembics.
COMING SOON
My post length varies based on what feels appropriate for the moment but tends toward a paragraph or two. Sometimes the situation calls for grand, sweeping prose and sometimes a single line of short, well-chosen dialogue carries more weight than a hundred words.I prefer lore-adherent, immersive roleplay with a strong emphasis on characterisation and the fantastical-realism of the setting; roleplay where the world is challenging and dangerous, strange and mysterious. Where wonders and revelation await, not a dry and thoroughly catalogued thing trapped in amber.I generally operate at 'low-altitudes'. My characters exist at the 'street level' and don't fundamentally alter the fate of the star; they leave before, and arrive after, world-changing events rather than being present and active participants in The Chosen One/Crystal Babygirl's Special Shounen Adventure. If you've somehow been a background ally to the Warrior of Light, on their heels every step of the way since before Dalamud's fall that's great and all but do expect intense incredulity about your extraordinary knack for being in the right place at the right time.
